PaulaToThePeople<p>It's :AsexualFlag: Ace week!</p><p>And I have a request for all :AromanticFlag: :AsexualFlag: allies: Please reflect on the following questions:</p><p>Disclaimer 1: I'm probably not going to include everyone with the words I use, but please let me know, so I can edit and learn.</p><p>Disclaimer 2: I'm also going to use language that lets you know what I assume is the answer to a former question. But all answers are true and valid. Please don't feel pressured or judged by my words. Some of the questions are simply void depending on your answers before.</p><p>1. Do you prioritize your romantic or sexual relationships/constellations/encounters/interests over your friendships?<br>Do you for example spend more time, money and energy on people who are not or you don't want to be "just friends"? Do you give more love to them? More attention? Would you rather stop everything your doing and travel to the middle of nowhere because one of them wants to see you right now, compared to a friend? Do you think your friends initiate contact more often then you and spend more effort in keeping the friendship going whenever you have people in your life you want to be with romantically or sexually?</p><p>2. Do the people you have romantic and/or sexual feelings for deserve the extra attention, time and affection? Do they treat you better than your friends? Is it easier with them or if not, do they give you something your friends can't to make it worth it? Are encounters with them better for you and your (psychological) health than encounters with your friends? Who do you think is more sore or jealous if you spend more time with someone else? Does that mean the other is feeling good about being second best?</p><p>3. Do you think society as a whole values romance and sexuality more than platonic love? Do you think that's justified? Do you think that the words we use cement those societal differences (e.g. phrases like "I want >more than< friendship")? Do you know a lot of movies or TV shows where a friendship is the main theme like a romance is in romance movies?</p><p>4. Do you think aro/ace people might be lonely and feel left out in such a society (not to say that aro/ace people can't be in romantic or sexual relationships/constellations and that friendship is the only format availible to all aro/ace people)? Do you think some of your friends that are single and not dating (right now) long to spend more (quality) time with you? Do you think some of your friends might like to tag along when your doing something (depending on the activity) with a person or persons in the romance/sex-category? Do you know or think that some of your friends are aro/ace?</p><p>5. Have you ever had a platonic crush? Do you know what queerplatonic means? Do you think you could handle it well when a friend has queerplatonic feelings for you that you don't reciprocate? Would it be the same or different than unreciprocated romantic/sexual feelings? Do you think you could be a qpp/bff to an aro/ace person while also being in a romantic/sexual partnership/constellation? Do you think the other person/people in the partnership/constellation would be okay with that? Would you prefer if they were?</p><p>I encourage you to look up any words you don't know and/or ask me about them. Many words don't mean the same to everyone and I can only give you my definition. PaulaToThePeople<p>I've identified as <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/trans" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>trans</span></a> for at least seven years now. In the very beginning that was my only gender identity, but soon I determined for myself, that my transness is part of the <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/NonBinary" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NonBinary</span></a> spectrum and since then I identify as <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/enby" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>enby</span></a> too.</p><p>As I've posted before I used to introduce myself as trans, as I thought more people understood that, even when non binary was already my main identity.<br>Then I thought to myself that I should start introducing myself as non binary, as more people should start to understand that.</p><p>I've always had my problem with the word trans, as for me it basically implies, that there are two genders and you switch from one to another, like crossing a river (in Vienna we call the part north of the Danube river "Transdanubia").</p><p>I'm not trans. I didn't "become" non binary. I am non binary.</p><p>Btw as a sidenote: I do use the word "identify" in regard to gender. Many say they don't identify as xy, they ARE xy. Because "identify" implies, that its just a feeling, not a fact. And I totally get that.<br>But I still use the word for two reasons:</p><p>1. As explained above, my gender can change. And if I first said I was trans and now I say, that I am no longer, that feels a bit strange to me. For many that may be true, but for me: I was never trans. My gender never changed. My thoughts about labels did.</p><p>2. The argument that "identify" implies feeling, not fact, protects against discrimination, which is important. But I'd like to use language that reflects how things should be, not how they are. People should accept, that my identity matters, even if it changes and later I'll say that what I said before was not factual.</p><p>But just to make sure: I'm not at all arguing that others should stop using the word "trans" for themselves. I'll continue to fight for trans rights and for people to be free to identify with or be any label they like.</p><p>And one more thing: I'm also starting to identify less with the <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/WTFRomantic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WTFRomantic</span></a> label. It implies that I have a hard time distinguishing romantic and platonic feelings and don't know what kind of relationship I want if I have feelings.<br>I do know though. I have <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/QueerPlatonic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>QueerPlatonic</span></a> feelings and want a <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/QueerPlatonicPartnership" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>QueerPlatonicPartnership</span></a> (though I'm fine with a platonic friendship or a romantic relationship if we both decide that that's what we want.).<br>But still I'm keeping the label, at least for now, as I simply like it. Plus also I want to help make it more known in the world.</p>

PaulaToThePeople<p>I think it's overdue that I tell you all these good news about my mental health. </p><p>But first a look back:<br>In summer 2019 I fell in love platonically. She reminded me a lot of my first love, a girl I was happily friends with for about two years and then got a depression after she found out I loved her and the friendship changed.<br>All the good and especially the bad feelings from the end of that past friendship came back immediately the first day I met the new woman. It was love at first sight but at first it wasn't even sure if the feelings were really for her or caused by the memory of my first love.<br>Anyway we became good friends, but the good and bad feelings stayed and by the end of the year I had developed a heavy depression, which stayed for over 4 years.<br>I won't go into detail about how bad it was (you can find some previous mh- posts on my profile, that haven't been auto deleted), because I want to keep this post (and the cw) positive.</p><p>Besides my depression I was diagnosed with social phobia and 3 personality disorders (dependent, avoidant and emotionally unstable). Btw dependent personality disorder has nothing to do with alcohol or other drugs, but, at least for me, with being dependent on other people, or another person.</p><p>The past 4 years were awful, but last summer it already got a lot better: I finally got over her. The depression didn't end, but it freed my mind and at least I got somewhat stable (except for one slip up). What remained though was my avolition, which actually had to get worse before it got better.<br>For a few months I couldn't get myself to do anything, not even post in the Fediverse. I didn't even touch my computer, let alone leave the house. All I did was play Pokemon on my Switch console and some really numb games on my phone, but only for short periods at a time, because I couldn't even motivate me to keep doing that.<br>I guess I had to reach rock bottom regarding my drive to then go upwards from there.</p><p>Mid January I started my computer again and did at least a few relatively meaningful things a day. Than a while later, still in January, I seem to have found a motivation-switch and started doing a fitness routine, which I still do daily. Being physically active motivated me to be more active in other ways too and that changed my mood completely. For about two weeks I described my mood as above average, which was probably because of the updraft. Now I'd say its average, which I'm totally fine with in my current situation. </p><p>My therapist got me thinking, if maybe my other diagnoses were just side effects of the depression, which could well be true:</p><p>About the social phobia: I now have a nice conversation with a (relative) stranger every day while dog walking. I feel a lot more confident while talking to other people, because I don't have such an abysmal self worth. And many people notice the change.</p><p>About the personality disorders: They say you cannot heal a personality disorder, only learn to live with it, but I don't think that's whats happening right now. I bet if I did a comprehensive diagnostic process like I did a few years ago I'd still have results that indicate similar differences in the personality from "the norm", but much less drastic. "Personality traits" instead of personality disorders.</p><p>I just definitely have a pathological psychic reaction when I fall in love and I can no longer keep my personality traits in check.<br>But I believe I'm much better equipped even for such situations than I was before and I mainly thank my new (since one year) therapist for that (deep psychoanalysis).</p><p>I don't want to jinx it, but if my situation stays like this for a while, I'm fine with that and I'll soon consider myself healed from the depression.</p><p>Sure there is lots of things that can still be improved: I have no money, job or education and no real plan about changing any of that. I have very few friends and generally no social net (which I really should have so when it comes to it, I won't put all my hopes and dreams into one person again and become extremely dependent).<br>And I actually wouldn't mind a sort of partnership for the first time in my life either. So gynequeerplatonic is an orientation where you want to have something friendship-partnership-like (no sex) with a feminine person.</p><p><a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/LAPAProblems" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LAPAProblems</span></a>: You shouldn't use the word "first world", because it implies that that region is somewhat better. LAPA is the term used nowadays, which stands for least affected people and areas. The opposite is MAPA (most affected...). It's mostly about being affected by the repercussions of the climate crisis afaik, but it's used basically for being affected by any hardship.</p><p><a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/FediSplaining" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FediSplaining</span></a>: I think I was the first one to use this word in a post that didn't make it through my Mastodon profile's auto-delete process.<br>It means explaining the downsides of corporate social media and how the Fediverse is different to someone, like they were a child, even though they didn't give any indication that that was how they needed it explained or that they needed it explained at all. Kida<p>IMO, an underrated fictional <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/lesbian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>lesbian</span></a> romance (between two WOC!) is Delle Seyah Kendry and Aneela on the SYFY series <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Killjoys" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Killjoys</span></a>, which blew my mind because it aired during the Bury Your Gays era. Aneela and Kendry both started out as terrible, vicious people who, in part through their love story, gradually learned to aim their anger and ruthlessness in more constructive directions and use their power for good. It was the first queer romance I ever saw that had a redemptive aspect to it, and the women remained powerful and formidable while trying to atone. Several of their lines and exchanges live rent free in my head (warning for spoilers):<br>-<br>Kendry: “Everything falls, Aneela, from fathers to empires. But we are queens. And queens... rise.”<br>-<br>Kendry: “Be careful.”<br>Aneela: “Be BRUTAL.”<br>-<br>Aneela: “If you want to stay human, I will hold your hands when you turn gray. I will bury you with honor and burn worlds in your name, and you will not be forgotten.”<br>Kendry: “Or?”<br>Aneela: “The war is over. And we have a son and an empire. And I need my queen.”<br>-<br>The show also contained one of the fiercest, strongest <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/QueerPlatonic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>QueerPlatonic</span></a> relationships I have ever seen, some disaster bis, and an adorable M/M romance, and none of them got buried either! This show buried none of its gays!
