This blog post about social media from @garethlpowellnews@wandering.shop sums up my feelings:

I am on Mastodon now, but I miss Twitter so much for the community and the engagement.
There is a large part of me that wants to go back, but I don't want to constantly wade through the racist, transphobic waters to do it.
Also, Instagram is hard for me - I am not great with making photos and videos, much preferring text, so I feel stuck.
@roclaverton I have to say I've made met and interact with people more here, on Mastodon than I ever did on twitter. And I mean, real actual interactions, not 'liked' tweets, and or the passing comment over on twitter.
Here I find it's all about personal engagement, but that's just my 2 cents.
@AlexWolfe I like my interactions on Mastodon.
It's just that some people, who I've known for ten years or more, haven't made the leap across.
It's hard to rebuild a community that's slowly grown over that length of time.
@roclaverton Oh, I hear you. There are many people who happy to stay over on Twitter, and those who, like us, have gone elsewhere, and as such, we're all over the place.
Is this the end of social media as we've known it? And the start of something new? Probably.
