This morning, I tried to whittle a 1200-word horror story down into 1,000 words for a flash fiction submission call, but after cutting and rewriting, it became 1500 words instead. I may throw in the towel on this one for now and let it be what it seems to want to be. I've been working on it for a long while and have recently amped it up with a more character-driven psychological component. I'm finding this requires the space to expand. #horrorwriters #horror #writingcommunity #writing
Ok, I've gotten my horror piece down to exactly 1500 words, which matches the limit for another market. I ended up adding more than 1500 all told but now, hopefully, I've chosen the best, most essential words? It rained earlier, chasing away a guy who fixes motorcycles and drives them around behind our building so that it starts to sound like Daytona Bike Week, especially when his friends and kids get involved. But at least now I think I've finished the little piece and may submit tomorrow.
@MargaretSefton Ugh! I have the same motorcycle problem with my neighbors! I feel your frustration. Best of luck on your submission!
@howler0502 Thank you so much! Actually, I'd probably even take the motorcycles over the Pomeranian who barks nonstop 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. --the time when his owners come home. lols. Usually, the motorcycle riders take a break. But it sounds like you know of what it is I speak.
