Monday Week, Procrastinator

I’m always awful when it comes to an , but let’s give this a go.
Hi! I’m Monday (though you can find me elsewhere as LoneMonday or variations thereupon). I’m a writer hoping to become an author and I’m studying a Ba of . I mainly write of the urban variety, and at the moment I’m working on a an urban fantasy novel. I’d like to say it’s going well, but it’s mainly just going! If I’m not writing, I can be found doing & drinking tea. Or .

My is an urban fantasy/mystery novel. An insurance investigator reluctantly agrees to take on an unusual job at work. An impromptu visit to the scene of the long-past crime leads to her discovery that nothing in her life is as normal or mundane as she thought it was, and now the ruler of hell just won’t leave her alone.

Time for an because it's been a while since my last one.

Hi, I'm Monday, also known as half of the duo Diagonal Roo (the other half is @Terriblerex, link to our work is in my bio). We write comics, with multi-genre spinoffs for each of our main characters.

I'm also writing a , which is (unsurprisingly) a detective novel set in an urban fantasy world.

When I'm not or , I'm studying a Ba of , or doing various .

@Monday This sounds amazing. Also I'm impressed you've got such a compelling summary. I struggle to summarize my without sounding boring.

@NadiaAmina thank you! I’m glad you think so. I feel like my summary sounds thoroughly boring, so maybe yours aren’t either.

@Monday that took a turn at the end! I was like ohh a mystery! Wait, the ruler of hell whaaat?

@joehumphrey Don’t worry, the researcher is perplexed too.

@Monday

sounds good. I hate it when the ruler of Hell won't let me alone. So annoying.

@JohnShirley2023 Right?! There you are, just trying to get on with your life and he just won’t stop meddling. What a butt.

@Monday This sounds intriguing, the ruler of hell you say?!

@Monday ooh that sounds cool. I love a good mystery.

@natashaoconnor Thank you! Fingers crossed you’ll be able to read it soon.

@natashaoconnor chapter five! Nano tells me I’m 20% but I’m not expecting it to stop at 50k. Things are getting pretty hairy and she still has no idea who the murder is or why. It’s looking to be a wordy one 😅

@Monday hey, you can always trim it down in the edits. Have you got beta readers lined up?

@natashaoconnor not at all! I wouldn’t know how to find them tbh. My mum has volunteered 🤣 but she’s my mum so I’d show her anyway.

@Monday also, sounds like you're doing good.

@Monday Welcome aboard Monday! I love stories that mirror real life! 😉

@Monday Hi! Nice to meet you on here. That was a good intro. Don't be hard on yourself. 😊 So to get to know you better: what's the best book you've read in the last three months?

@cherryedits hi! Thank you, I appreciate that.
Ooooh. Thats a tough question. I’d have to say Wonderbook, by Jeff VanderMeer. It’s challenged so much of my thinking and creative process and I’ve never felt so confident in my abilities before. How about you?

@Monday Ooh, probably Klara and the Sun from the last three months. Loved that. Gave me all the feels 😅

@Monday Welcome Monday 🍍

My hobby is playing just for me. It is more my non verbal meditation time. My Sunday activity.

@me_brady I love cello music. Is it difficult to learn? It’s been on my list of instruments for a while now

@Monday I took cello up as an adult without any other musical knowledge. It took practice. Bowing is subtle.

I play without reading music too. Cause I don't go the easy route. 🤣

I loved the challenge & I love the feel of it. There is nothing like cello.

@me_brady I got up to grade 4 piano exams without learning to read music 😅 it’s easier, somehow? But also harder. Thank you for the info!

@Monday some of us, play by ear. I'm learning to read music now for piano, but for cello, I play with my heart & instinct. Much easier for me.

I hope you try it out. It is 🥰

@thebradking I’m not normally a romance reader, but I’ll give her a look!

@Monday the first book is really more urban fantasy. There's a love story ish, but it's not a genre romance!

@Monday what IS urban fantasy? I thought one of mine was that at one stage - cos it was fantasy and, well, urban, but it turned out not to be ANYTHING like other urban fantasy, so I gave up on the whole categorisation thing altogether. Is it paranormal? I can only vaguely conceive what paranormal even is to be honest. I think it's because I'm kind of old.

@paranoiapen according to goodreads: “Urban fantasy is a subgenre of fantasy in which the narrative uses supernatural elements in a 19th-century to 21st-century (or equivalent) urban society.”
You’ve got me questioning now 😅

@Monday @paranoiapen

This is definitely how I would define ! Modern city setting with supernatural elements?

@Monday my book has that, but when I looked at urban fantasy, they all seemed to be paranormal, as in vampires/zombies/shifters kind of thing, and had romance - generally human falls in love with paranormal creature, and chosen ones and saving the world. I got discouraged.

@paranoiapen I promise there’s a big difference between urban fantasy and paranormal romance, but the % of crossover between the two seems to be quite high. Urban fantasy doesn’t at all have to have those paranormal romance elements!

@Monday it's cool. My regular fantasy books don't seem to be anything like anyone else's regular fantasy books either.

@paranoiapen @Monday I'm not a publisher, so any form of categorization is a waste of brainpower for me.

But if I had to define urban fantasy, I personally consider it to be fantasy, with magick and paranormal themes in a "real world" setting. Contrary to vanilla fantasy that usually is contained in medieval themed settings.

Hello from a fellow writer. A pleasure to get to know you a bit better, Monday.
