The free version of Alexa has all of these things already.

Sources tell Reuters that Amazon is aiming to launch the new Alexa in August, marking a “desperate attempt” to overhaul the voice assistant. The paid version of Alexa might not require users to keep saying “Alexa” when talking to the assistant. It will reportedly be capable of completing multiple requests in one prompt, such as writing a short email and ordering takeout from Uber Eats. As reported by Reuters, the more advanced Alexa could also offer the ability to “learn” from users and create routines, like turning a customer’s coffee pot on when their alarm goes off. This tracks with last month’s report from CNBC, which said Amazon plans on rolling out a subscription for Alexa that doesn’t come with Prime.

- Not having to say "Alexa" every time is called Follow-Up Mode, launched in 2018.
- Multi-step requests, also came out in 2018.
- Routines based on past behavior is called "Hunches." Yet again, arrived in 2018.

Problem is none of these things make money so now Amazon has to dress them up in an LLM in a Hail Mary attempt to justify another subscription fee.

@Newmy zero chance I pay for Alexa without them conceding on a lot of their control over my experience.

Let me remove 97% of the service and I’ll pay for it.

You can’t even list installed Skills anymore. It’s incredibly hostile.

@Newmy Literally the worst app on my phone for how important it actually is.

Alexa is just an absolute abomination of a product over all.
