I'm publishing my first middle grade (MG) story, and need to set a price for the PRINT format. It will be 5x8 inches trim size, with 104 story pages.
I don't have kids, so I'm not sure how to price it. If you have middle schoolers, enjoy reading MG stories, or publish your own MG fiction, what's an acceptable price?
Again, this is for the PRINT format. Thanks!
Might want to look into something I just read yesterday. It said much of the POD printing is done in China. Tariffs will affect those prices too. Not sure how that translates to your cut. I've not done printed so I have no clue about this: does your printer specify where your books will be printed?
@crcollins
Hmm, that's a good point. Up until now, I've always done print-to-order through Amazon, and I believe they print wherever the book is ordered (83 of the 86 print sales have been in the US). I could be wrong.
Regardless, I can offer other options for this one. I don't think many middle schoolers use KU, so there's no need to be Amazon exclusive. I should look into other printing options.
Not that I expect this to be a big moneymaker or anything, lol.
You never know! And every little bit helps.
@SJHoodlet As an indie author, most of my paperbacks are prices at $6.99. I believe the price is affordable for a potential reader, and the amount of royalties is acceptable to me.
@EndicottAuthor That's fair. My adult fantasy books are much longer (500+ pages for the series I'm working on now), so the paperback is priced higher.
I know kids often get books for gifts, so I want this book to be both affordable and reasonable, regardless of royalties.
Besides, I don't expect this one to be a moneymaker. I wrote it for my nephew, but if others enjoy it, too, that's awesome!
