I can’t think of a better way to sell Linux to millions of people than “a Windows update can break every one of your computers and leave you unable to work for days”
(To be clear, it’s Crowdstrike’s fault.)
@ernie news that also dropped recently, nVidia finally opening up their drivers, will make this less likely on Linux. That everybody doing any serious 3D or AI had mysterious binary blobs in their Linux kernel has always bugged me.
@ernie Well ... AV/EDR runs on Linux, usually in kernel space, and often required by many compliance frameworks. (Though there is some diversity in those kernels, such that kernel driver error in one ecosystem is unlikely to impact the others?)
@tychotithonus yeah the issue here is that there isn't a ton of diversity in these machines at the kernel level which is making it really bad.
I also think there's the perception case here. It almost doesn't matter if it's Microsoft’s fault or not. People just see the millions of BSoDs.
@ernie Concur 100% there
