Dave Dawkins (D. Harrigon)

For my European friends now waking up.

How far did Bilbo and Frodo walk?

The Shire is a barely hidden reference to the Garden Counties of England. Before the Ice Age, it was possible to walk into Europe.

The superimposed map shows the Lonely Mountain near Chojnice, Poland, and Mount Doom down around Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

That's some hiking.

@golgaloth @bookstodon I saw this map already 12 -14 ys ago including Europe. And Tolkiens peacefull sources had been turned through his WW1 time as a soldier. Into this dark world in the south east of Europe .
The swamps of Dagolad are near the frontline to Mordor . And the dead bodies inside are exactly like fallen soldiers in WW1 trenches in France

Once I can walk more than 10km in a day without my legs in crippling pain, I want to do some of these long walks and pilgrimages on foot.
