Wenn eins schon nicht schlafen kann, dann kann eins wenigstens mal wieder das Equipment herrichten.

Und weils zeitlich perfekt passt, geht's jetzt in den Zoo.

Bei blauem Himmel, strahlendem Sonnenschein und etwas über 0 Grad.

Also mal wieder mit 300mm Altglas auf digitalem Vollformat den Tieren ganz nah sein :)

Tern with catch of the day over elvish landscape

There are several reasons why New Zealand are used for adventure films.

Light and colours are two obvious reasons.
Flora, fauna and landscape are others.

Personally, when watching the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy, I am a bit disappointed they do not really shows how awesome New Zealand is.

Better visit Aotearoa in person.

It is an early morning just after sunrise north of Dunedin, in Otago, South Island, Aotearoa/New Zealand.

The rare Ivory Gull
300mm on APSC camera (equivalent to 480mm).
On this cold winter day I was lucky to see several exotic Birds, Ivory Gull (Pagophila eburnea), Snowy Owl (Bubo Scandiacus), Iceland Gull (Larus glaucoides), Little Gull (Hydrocoloeus minutus), Horned Grebe (Podiceps auritus), Red-throated Diver/Loon (Gavia stellata), European rock pipit (Anthus petrosus) and many more common Birds, a great day that I will remember ! The wind blows the feathers up under the beak, which gives you a small idea of how good this rare Bird are adopted for a life near the North Pole !
