It now looks like BC might have just barely avoided sleepwalking into a takeover by an anti-vax, anti-Indigenous, trans-hating, oil-loving, extreme Conservative party. By a few hundred votes. Whatever happens, the BC NDP and the Greens need to sit down together and work out how they are going to make sure we never get that close again. Don't point fingers, just tell us what you're going to do differently next time. #BCpoli #bcelection2024 #bcndp #greens

A B.C. Conservative candidate awaiting the results of a recount that could determine who forms govt used a racist slur to describe Indigenous Peoples during an election-night interview.

Marina Sapozhnikov, who finished only 23 votes behind the NDP’s Dana Lajeunesse in Juan de Fuca-Malahat, said that before Europeans came to North America, First Nations Peoples “didn’t have any sophisticated laws. They were savages. They fought each other all the time.”

I would like to see a trial of free transit in some region. The point would be to monitor impact on traffic and make decisions about future expansion province wide.

After that:

Eliminate fossil fuel subsidies.

Ban old growth logging.

Expand rooftop solar and local battery deployment.

etc .. its a long list.
Need to make sure she doesnt over play her hand as I wouldnt put it past Eby to just call another election.

Sober second thought regarding the #BCelection2024 : the good news is that about 53% of the people that did vote were still willing to vote for nominally progressive parties, and hopefully the final seat count results in a minority government that reflects that. The bad news is that 43% of the people didn't even bother to vote. Participation rates in Canadian elections are becoming bleak. 20 years ago BC elections regularly had a 70% or better turnout.

Oh, BC 🤦 ... *another* one

Rustad's Conservative candidate, "Dr." Jody Toor, IMD, PhD, has won in Langley-Willowbrook.
Ms. Toor is NOT an accredited medical doctor, she is not a health professional, she is not a naturopath."
Toor's degrees come from an online university which is not accredited to graduate doctors or naturopaths.

In short, the BC NDP ran a "let the professionals handle this" Hilary Clinton-style campaign. And guess what? They got a Hilary result. Surprise surprise. The smartest people in that room were not that smart, after all. I'm sure they're working hard right now on figuring out who to point fingers at. I bet it'll be a mix of the Greens and those darn apathetic voters. Why are they apathetic? It's a mystery, BC NDP. It's a mystery. Very complex. #BCpoli #ndp #bcndp #bcelection2024

🧵 via John Mark Taylor@prairiecentrist #BCElection2024 recap

"A lot of people are mad. They’re mad at the wrong things and the wrong people. Instead of being mad at #COVID, they’re mad at governments who struggled through the pandemic"

"Instead of being mad at Vladimir Putin for destabilizing Europe and the world food system worse than it already was, they’re mad at NATO and Volodymyr Zelenskyy for trying to stop a fascist takeover of a peaceful democratic state"
