Trevor<p>I am planning on streaming the mainboard replacement for my <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/FrameworkLaptop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FrameworkLaptop</span></a>, but to do so I'll need a computer at the table where I'm going to do the work - can't do it at the desktop, the desk is (rightly) organized around my wife's work stuff. So - welcome back, cursed computer! The <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/Ubuntu" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Ubuntu</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/Surface" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Surface</span></a> Pro 3 returns, in all its glory. This is still a pretty nice device, despite its wear and tear from nearly a decade of service. Solidly built, nice action on the keyboard, beautiful screen. <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/microsoft" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>microsoft</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/framework" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>framework</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/streaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>streaming</span></a></p>
Tommi 🤯<p>Since I am in Rome for a couple of days, I decided to come to work at the <strong>Library of the Senate of the Italian Republic</strong> this fine morning.</p><p>The library staff is not friendly at all, but the place is crazy.</p><p>I was asked what kind of laptop this is, and of course I proudly replied: “it’s a <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@frameworkcomputer" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>frameworkcomputer</span></a></span>, you should get one 😜”</p><p><a href="https://pan.rent/tags/Rome" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Rome</span></a> <a href="https://pan.rent/tags/Roma" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Roma</span></a> <a href="https://pan.rent/tags/Italy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Italy</span></a> <a href="https://pan.rent/tags/Italia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Italia</span></a> <a href="https://pan.rent/tags/SmartWorking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SmartWorking</span></a> <a href="https://pan.rent/tags/workplace" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>workplace</span></a> <a href="https://pan.rent/tags/Framework" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Framework</span></a> <a href="https://pan.rent/tags/FrameworkLaptop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FrameworkLaptop</span></a> <a href="https://pan.rent/tags/FrameworkComputer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FrameworkComputer</span></a></p>
Zygmunt Krynicki<p>I've just installed 96GB of RAM into my <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/FrameworkLaptop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FrameworkLaptop</span></a> 13 and I must say that this computer has exceeded my expectations. The memory was about $200 (USD) and it arrived from a local, third party reseller in one day.</p><p>I will not run AI models, so the 5600M memory is sufficient for me. The fact that this was an upgrade from 8GB is what counts.</p><p>Here comes all the VM memory I ever needed :)</p>

Ercanbrack<p>I’ve been using a Lenovo Yoga for my 2-in-1 Linux computer duties. But now I have another, possibly better option. Don’t get me wrong—my Lenovo has been working great!! But ultra-repairability, and ultra-upgradability has some nice advantages! I’ll be watching this one closely! 🙂</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/Framework" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Framework</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/FrameworkLaptop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FrameworkLaptop</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/ConvertibleLaptops" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ConvertibleLaptops</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/Touchscreen" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Touchscreen</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/LinuxTablet" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LinuxTablet</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/RightToRepair" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RightToRepair</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/Laptop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Laptop</span></a></p><p>From: <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://layer8.space/@killyourfm" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>killyourfm</span></a></span><br><a href="https://layer8.space/@killyourfm/114066503179512472" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">layer8.space/@killyourfm/11406</span><span class="invisible">6503179512472</span></a></p>

Alright, so. Recently, about once a day, my #FrameworkLaptop 16 has been doing ... this.

This results in the loss of all USB.

Which includes the internal keyboard, any external keyboards, any bluetooth keyboards... basically, everything except the trackpad, which is HID-over-I2C, and the power button, which is wired to the cros EC. I wind up having to hard-power-cycle the machine.

I'm resisting the urge to throw this annoyingly bendy laptop out a window. Anybody got any ideas for how to debug this? @frameworkcomputer ?

now that I've had my Framework 13 for a couple days, I have to say that trackpad gestures in GNOME are every bit as nice to use as I imagined they'd be

I did of course make use of them back with my Pinebook Pro, but the PBP's trackpad doesn't hold up against the Framework 13's at all. the latter's is definitely the nicest trackpad I've used on a laptop

(the bar _is_ pretty low as far as what I've actually used myself, but, still)

I spent nearly my whole weekend setting up my new laptop and documenting the process. So here's my guide on how to setup a Framework 13 Core Ultra with Arch Linux, full disk encryption and UI scaling (aka retina support) on XFCE.

After a few more days with the Framework Laptop 13 (3/2):

The battery life is middling. I've had better. I've also had worse. It's easy enough to charge from any USB-C port, left or right. It seems to be happy to draw 60 W from my charger (not measured).

I found a dock that works well: the Plugable Thunderbolt 3 TBT3-UDZ. I can drive the laptop's own display and two external 1080p displays no problem. There's a newer TBT4 model from Plugable but this one's easy to buy in Australia. plugable.com/products/tbt3-udz

The USB-C "expansion" (really extension) ports feel a bit wobbly with any cable I insert. It's not an electrical contact problem (yet) but nothing feels as snug as it does on my MacBook.
