#Kiel

This hurts more than most Onion posts, but in the interests of fairness... 🤣

Remember kids, it is NOT OK to bring BB guns to Kennedy Center performances under this administration! 🎯

(And there is no way this ahole idiot is actually a Horn player!)

The Onion · JD Vance’s French Horn Solo Booed At Kennedy CenterBy The Onion Staff

Feeling musical! 🎶 🙂

A few days of Horn practice in a row. Played some scales today that sounded like a real Horn player, almost like I knew what I was doing! 😉

I'm gonna push it this evening and tune up my classical guitar, too.

(I majored in Music at the University of Iowa, and played Horn for a living 1983-2009. Trying to make a comeback after 16 years off the instrument.)

Oh gosh, I love this! I've always wanted a Viennese Horn. Both the soloist and the Horn section are using them. You can see they've got unique double piston valves, as well as crooks (the tubing coils right below the mouthpiece) like older hand Horns to place them in different keys. The soloist's (Peter Dorfmayr) hand position in the bell is much more occluded than I'd expect. What a wonderful tone!

Back into Horn practice, after time slacking off. I've been buzzing my mouthpiece a few days. Today I picked up a Horn again for some long tones.

Decided to start working with the York Schmidt copy I bought last Spring (pictured). It needs some work, but it's definitely playable as is. When I got my pitches centered, and throat open, it returned the lovely, buttery Horn tone I've always wanted. This Horn is definitely a keeper, and may well turn into my daily. 📯 😀
