Asian instruments go great with rock

I don’t know why, but the timbre of Asian stringed instruments always matches so well with a rock or metal background for some reason, at least to my ears. It’s not something that I specifically search for, but I’m always happy when it crosses my timeline somewhere, like this YouTube short I saw a few days ago.

A cat: ‘They smoked pipes, played dice’
by Helen Sullivan

"...This myth is still around today: domestic cats who live to be more than 10 years old become bakeneko. They kill their owners, walk around on their hind legs, and take over the home. Sometimes, they shapeshift into old women, or old women are said to actually be bakeneko. I hope this is my fate..."

A Four Movement Sonata: Tsugaru Shamisen
Broadcast on October 24, 2021

The #Tsugaru #Shamisen is a stringed instrument named after the region where it was developed in #Aomori Prefecture. As one of the snowiest places in the world, harsh Tsugaru winters are said to have given rise to a unique sound that is both energetic and sorrowful. Through 2 leading young performers of its repertoire today, explore the history of the region.

Student learns Shamisen for seven years, then commissions Shamisen Komatsuya to build him an instrument.

The shape and tradition around all the parts of this instrument are fascinating to me, I am viewing via a different evolutionary path, would have solved the problems in other ways, but that's not Shamisen.

Also love the kitchen trapdoor with the special woods in the cellar.

Hello everyone! #introduction

I am an academic interested in archives, documentation, digital scholarships and university museum.

I work at Keio Museum Commons, a university museum in Tokyo, Japan as a project coordinator, curator, and editor ... basically I do almost everything for running a museum, as our museum is quite small.

Here I will post about my work, daily life and hobbies, including #cat, #fountainpen and #shamisen.
