Between Les Vacances (53) and Mon Oncle (58), Hulot's hat did not change that much. Except for the colour: from white to grey/greenish in the latter. This change made the tone quite different. In Mon Oncle it looked more dressed.
#Tati called the #style 'feuille de papier', but in #Etaix' designs it came out to be less 'light' than Tati first had in mind. So we can clearly see the difference in both films.

#Drawings from 'Etaix dessine Tati'

Happy bday in comedic heaven, Jacques Tati!
We'll play some nice tunes to remember you.
But also, we're aware you are amongst us day in day out.. look around you, observe people, observe situations.
We're all a bit of Tati and/or Hulot.

⚠️Spoiler alert: movie ending in link!

The first section of "Trafic" reflects the big-canvas style of "Playtime," with gags steadily accruing in a frame that meshes foreground and background and favors visual pleasures over jokes, as in the stunning montage of Altra's assembly lines — a passage involving overhead shots, close-ups, and a symphony of industrial noises that recalls Joris Ivens's 1931 doc "Philips Radio."
