Salty Critter Shapes by Debra Martz
Moisture, whether from beneath the ground or falling as rain, contributes to the formation of shapes crafted by #SaltCrystals in this area of #Oklahoma. #Pareidolia, like seeing faces in clouds; I often spot figures, & in this instance, a creature on the surface. I see a face gazing upward, a twisted, somewhat oval body, & extended limbs. Do you see that or something entirely different?

"Salt of the Earth" by Debra Martz

This 32,197-acre refuge located in north-central Oklahoma, is made up of a variety of habitats such as wetlands, prairie, and about 12,000 acres of salt flats. And there is a hidden treasure; hourglass selenite crystals that you can dig for free.

An Otherworldly Landscape: Bolivian Salt Flats – A Natural Laboratory for Mars Research
In recent years, Andean salt flats have been the subject of climate and space-based analog studies, serving as a proxy for Earth’s climate history and the Martian environment. Salt textures tell the story of the landscape’s climatic and geologic history, while saltwater brines and hydrated clays beneath the salt crust are of interest to both Earth and Mars scientists.
