For #WildlifeWednesday here are some Brandt's Cormorants — namely, an adult with its naked chicks in the nest, one begging for food. What a struggle! Photographed recently at La Jolla Cove here in San Diego.

ICYMI:
When a 5.2-magnitude #earthquake hit Southern #California on Monday, five African #elephants at #SanDiego Zoo Safari Park formed a protective "alert circle" that lasted about four minutes.
Zoo footage shows how the adults positioned themselves with backs together and faces outward while young Mkhaya ran for safety between them. Meanwhile, young Zuli stayed at the edge, receiving reassuring trunk taps from his caretaker Khosi.

It makes my heart soar to know that that was the experience people had with each other that night — a moving, blessed feeling of connection. That's the power of art and community; and boy do we need it right now more than ever. I am so grateful.

I'm continuing with my middle of the month routine #Throwback to photos from 10 years ago. This month's selection only includes two images as I feel like I've mostly outgrown the rest of my April 2015 work... (which is not a bad thing!)

April 14: neither sight nor sound of White-crowned Sparrows in the backyard today.
Saw a Black-headed Grosbeak instead, briefly visiting the platform feeder. This is only the 2nd time ever I've seen one in our backyard.
I love elephants so much. Check out the video at the top of the article. This is so amazing, such wonderful creatures.
