It's not a #WritingPrompt , but a #solarpunk #illustration idea about finding beauty in human labor:
A beautiful community center with a huge, colorful stained glass wall. It's chaotic and littered after a night-long event.
Early in the morning, janitors start cleaning it before the workshops of the day.
The first rays of the sun are getting through the stained glass, painting their faces and the entire room in an ethereal beauty.
This is not a shameful job to be done in darkness.
@alxd i love that! it’s gorgeous
@solito if you like it, check out the @SolarpunkPrompts podcast, with a lot of illustrations from @the_lemonaut :)
@alxd May I have a small yes-and on it? Not janitors, but community members.
Having a clean and beautiful environment as a shared cultural value, a thing of importance to all, and so a task shared by all. Something society is built around like the community center itself.
@rycuda I agree! There's a lot to imagine about community members performing different tasks, jobs, professions, especially the ones which are currently not seen as glorious.
It's harder to express that on a single illustration though ;)
I think we can make a Solarpunk Prompt based on this "don't be afraid to get your hands dirty"
@alxd Oh I love that
@rycuda the upcoming Prompt touches a little on that, because it's about replacing the mandatory military service with mandatory infrastructural service.
After school everyone spends a year or two getting a training as a nurse, pandemic contact tracer, flood mitigation specialist, electrician, etc etc - and when there's a major environmental disaster, they're called into service.
There's a lot of fun culture to explore in the dynamics of your barber being a river pollution expert.
@alxd I really enjoy this. A much younger me used to dream of joining communication sans frontier. A somewhat older than me got first aid trained as soon as opportunity arose.
For any large mobilisation of folks there's always the core logistics to think about as well. Doesn't matter what the situation is, everyone needs food, a clean safe place to sleep, basic hygiene needs met, clothes to wear. Critical skills that so easily get overlooked.
@rycuda you might enjoy more of the @SolarpunkPrompts podcast episodes as well :)
