So the friend of mine who helped get me started in eurorack #synthesizers has moved on to bigger standards. This is a 4u rack for #Buchla style modules that he was commissioned to make for someone attending Machina Bristronica in #Bristol this weekend. It was only just finished in time, but then it got chosen as the header image of the Guardian's article about the event, so that's a massive win!

A modular synth case with 6 wide oblong rack units arranged in a huge vertical 'C' shape. Each unit is held in place by a metal bar bent into different 'S' type shapes that all meet together underneath. these are then fastened to the top of a wide pipe about one meter tall, the bottom of which is bolted to two large railway sleepers to keep everything stable. In this picture, it's in a house, nearly touching the ceiling while a whippet snuggles in a sleeping bag / cushion combo in the bottom left of shot.
This shot shows three off the racks with power distribution boards and wiring being laid in. There are a few modules fitted in the back of the shot and a phone with its torch mode active.

This week I finished listening to the two-part interview with Morton Subotnick at podbay.fm/p/electronically-you. I could listen to him talk for several more episodes, but this is good.

One interesting thing: He doesn't consider the #Buchla system a synthesizer. It is "an analog computer for making music". It was intended to be digital. But it wasn't possible when it was made, so they had to make it analog.
