Easy win for the CFPB over a man who ran a scammy credit-repair business. But nothing is easy these days for the administrative state. Given Jarkesy, is defendant entitled to a jury trial after the CFPB won a default judgment against his business entity?

Judge #AmyBermanJackson said she is “deeply concerned” that #Trump admin ofcls aren’t complying with her earlier order that maintains the #CFPB’s existence until she rules on the merits of a lawsuit seeking to preserve it.

During the hearing, Jackson said she will bar ofcls from any #MassFirings or cutting off employees’ access to bureau computer systems.

Jackson scheduled a hearing on April 28 to hear testimony from ofcls who were working on the reduction in force, or #RIF, procedures.

Judge #AmyBermanJackson of the Federal District Court in Washington said she intended to issue an order later on Friday preventing the #CFPB’s workers from being cut off from the agency’s system, as the agency’s leaders had planned. She said she intended to follow up later this month with a more extensive hearing on the planned #layoffs. Until then, they will not move forward, she said.

Ahead of Fri’s court hearing on Thur’s #job cuts at the #CFPB, the #union repping the bureau’s staff countered w/their own legal filings that said the #MassFiring would make it impossible to perform the agency’s required tasks. E.G., the agency said that it was cutting the Office #Consumer Response, which expects to handle 5M complaints this year, to 20 workers down from 149. The office’s chief of staff…said…that “the office will be incapable of performing its statutory duties”….

In court filings ahead of the hearing, Mark Paoletta, the bureau’s chief legal officer, defended the #purge, which he said would “right-size” an agency filled w/ “vast waste.” Paoletta said he & others had determined that it needed only 200 workers. Many legally required units — including those that focus on #FairLending, #StudentLoans & protections for older Americans — need only one! employee, he said.

After the #Trump admin sent termination notices on Thurs to 90% of employees at the #CFPB — some 1,500 people — Judge #AmyBermanJackson of the Federal District Court in Washington ordered a hearing at 11AM today. She is seeking to determine if the terminations violated an injunction she imposed barring agency ofcls from dismantling the bureau so completely that it cannot carry out its legally mandated duties.

⚡"Last night, a fed judge issued a preliminary injunction barring DOGE’s access to sensitive #SocialSecurity data, saying the govt flouted the law to provide unfettered access to #DOGE w/o a reasonable basis.

DISMANTLING #CFPB: Judge A Berman Jackson has called a 10am hearing on whether the Trump admin violated her order agst large-scale dismantling of the agency. She's seeking details of a purported reduc in force & the order to implement it."

Your💰is at risk:

The #CFPB will cut its inspections of FIN services cos. in half while focusing on threats to MIL personnel & turning away from areas like student loans, med debt, digital pymts & consumer data -would focus less on matters where st-level agencies also have jurisdiction & would cut the number of supervisory "events" by🚨50%, sharply reducing the supervision of nonbanks.

It'll "deprioritize" its oversight of digital payments, consumer data...

"In a court fight over whether DOGE has to comply with public demands for its records under FOIA, DOJ says it's going to immediately appeal..."

ICYMI: A fed judge in DC denied the Trump admin's effort to get a lawsuit tossed out challenging DOGE's access to systems & data at Labor, HHS & CFPB -- "& prepares itself for the twists & turns this case will surely continue to bring."

Judge scraps US rule capping #CreditCard late fees at $8

U.S. District Judge Mark Pittman in Fort Worth, #Texas granted a joint request by #Trump’s #CFPB and a coalition of 6 business & banking groups [pretty much who the CFPB is supposed to be protecting #consumers from] including the US Chamber of #Commerce & American #Bankers Association to scrap the rule adopted during President Joe #Biden's administration.

🚨 Republicans just voted to keep screwing over working Americans — all to protect big bank profits.

The Biden-era CFPB passed a rule capping predatory overdraft fees at $5. That saved regular people $5 billion a year.

You know who hated that? Wall Street.

So guess what the GOP made a priority? Killing that rule.

Every single Democrat voted to protect consumers.

Every single Republican voted to let banks keep robbing people who are struggling the most.

They chose billionaires over the 99% — again.

#TheCryptocalypseChronicles: How To Insider Trade And Influence People (With Tariffs)

Ever since the big reveal of the nonsensical Trump Tariff Equation Americans have been coming to grips with a reality in which their financial future appears to be more or less entirely dependent on a series of wild proclamations emanating at random intervals from the mind of an economically illiterate and extremely orange madman who is drunk on his own power.

This decidedly less than ideal situation has created a reality where Donald Trump can award vast wealth to his friends and followers just by sending a few late night tweets tipping them off about what he's about to say.

It just so happens that data about stock market activity bears out this theory: someone is insider trading on Trump's tweets.

Retoots appreciated.
