Historian Timothy Snyder examines how freedom, often taken for granted, is, in reality, a fragile asset that demands constant vigilance and action. In this interview, he reflects on the threats facing modern democracies – from authoritarianism to disinfo – and explores how the control of history & the manipulation of the past can undermine our ability to freely shape the future.

The patriarchal culture really does not care if men are unhappy.

oh gods. Fuck, man.
"Social psychology has found that:
The more you reward people for doing something...
the more they lose interest in whatever they had to do, to get the reward."
(Which makes a bit of a mockery, I feel, of both our education and employment systems.)

Quote from Alfie Kohn's book, 'The Schools Our Children Deserve'
Contemplating #whiteness and the trope of sullenly willful bewilderment—fuzzy echo of the misogynistic myth of the "rational" man beset by "irrational" women—which trope, diagrammed to a broad elision of its own gender and colonial ideologies, serves as obstacle to #solidarity against both ableist apologism, in specific, and #kyriarchy across intersections, in general.
In a culture where so many fail to grasp (let alone take in) even the notion of microaggressions, is it any wonder that transmission would be beyond the ken of at least as many?
When we choose the least harm in those 1,000 small moments of intimate life AND work together in groups for big movements, we are rooting for a better timeline.
When we have the energy+time to feel joy, we root for a timeline with more joy.
For me, I love seeing the Black friends, couples, families, workers, + randos thrive.

New instance, new #introduction. Edit: I have supplemented this introduction with replies to this post.
I see this instance has a *nice* *long* character limit for posts.
I have a Ph.D. in Human Science (2016, Saybrook University), which is about the experience of being human in social contexts. It is the mother of the social sciences but is now, at least in the English speaking world, and at least as far as I can tell, a dead field.
I studied #conservatism for my #dissertation. And yes, the #Democrats are far too #conservative for me.
Once upon a time, a very, very long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, I was a computer programmer. It was the wrong career choice.
I am a #vegan #LibertarianSocialist (recovering #anarchist) mostly from the #SanFrancisco #BayArea in #California, presently residing in #Pittsburgh, #Pennsylvania, hoping to move to #erie
In #kyriarchy, I mostly focus on #classism and #ageism, but since arriving in Pittsburgh, have been confronted with blatant #racism (and yes, many white people here do see it). But #SocialJustice has to be for everybody; to focus on any one identity, to the exclusion of others, is nothing more than to elevate that identity over that of the predominantly wealthy white males who are now in charge.
I oppose all #imperialism and #SettlerColonialism, not just U.S. and NATO imperialism and settler-colonialism. Having lived on the underbelly of #capitalism most of my life, I am #anticapitalist and ferociously opposed to #neoliberalism. I oppose physical and structural violence.
Human beings have #HumanRights. These rights are not constrained by their governments' failures to ratify certain human rights treaties.
#Borders exist to mark off territory controlled by elites whose competition accounts for most if not all wars and to deny human beings on the "wrong" side of an arbitrary line rights and privileges available on the "right" side. This cannot be justified ethically. I am hostile to #xenophobia
Finally, I am pessimistic about the future of humanity. #COVID19 and the #ClimateCrisis demonstrate our unfitness for survival.
Just a local CEO riding my butt because I broke through the clutter in his media sphere and then used the word #Kyriarchy in conversation.
#ForMeBeingVegan is a form of both compassion, resistance and political boycott in a society that tortures and kills sentient beings when it is possible to do otherwise. It is also a reminder that many situations of domination and abuse of power have the same root, call it #powerarchy or #kyriarchy, that, at the same time, links all kinds of #oppressions and links all types of activism against these same oppressions. As I am #vegan to counter #carnism, I am #antiracist against #racism, #feminist against #patriarchy, etc.
I am quite fed up of a system that puts all the onus on the disabled to educate people about ableism, on the non-white to educate people about racism, and on women (incl. trans) to educate people about misogyny.
Here are some useful tips on socially acceptable ways to win arguments, & make sure they don't come back for more.

Since I went to look a couple of things up in there: a reminder that one of my favourite books of the past few years, Data Feminism by @kanarinka and @laurenfklein is open access
https://data-feminism.mitpress.mit.edu/
It's full of ideas and examples, as well as best (and worst) practice. It shows how to collect, analyse and publish data in an inclusive, intersectional and feminist way. Cannot recommend highly enough; I treasure my physical copy.

Hey, you know that group of people that you routinely block, calling them "trolls" and "edgelords," maybe based on the argument that you thought they were making up their identities just to draw negative attention to you?
Well, I happen to hang out with them in their own spaces, and some of them are doing exactly the same thing to you.
In both cases, what you are doing is shameful. You are crabs in a bucket, and it disgusts me. Kyriarchy disgusts me.
#Assimilationism is #kyriarchy. In the long-run, it won't even help you to throw other out-groups under the bus. Gratitude is not in the nature of those in power. They will come for you just as soon as everybody else is so broken and terrified as to no longer constitute any realistic threat to their strangling grip on the neck of society.
The revolution is slowly starting to organize. Be a part of it.
