An unknown waterfall somewhere along Norway's Nordfjord last year. You can get a sense of its size from the house in the photo. It was bitterly cold as we cruised through this part of the fjords, but you never let a little thing like the temperature stop you from being awestruck by what nature offers up.

We're on the water of a fjord looking directly across at one face of it which is a steep but not quite sheer face almost completely covered with trees; it's a wall of dark green shades. The very top of the fjord face is covered in a low layer of cloud. At the base of the treeline, to give some sense of scale, we can see a building; a house, perhaps, with dark walls and a red roof. It's tiny; less than a small fingernail held at arm's distance. To the right of the house a waterfall plummets down, easily over a hundred metres over black rock, with the top of it under the cloud cover. The flow of water is bright white against the overall darkness of the view, its width at points up the not-quite-straight fall sometimes three times that of the house near its bottom. The fjord water is inky black, flat, and reflects the waterfall above like ice. It feels cold here and peaceful with the distances involved, but you can feel the roar of the water reverberating through that tiny house.

Snatching moments of photo processing while I'm working, and since I've just completed my shots from our scenic - if absolutely freezing - cruise along the Nordfjord in Norway, here's one of the pictures I really like. I love the details and ghostly forms of the trees in the low cloud rolling over this fjord cliff.

It's a cold, misty day, with low cloud filling the scene and a huge rocky cliff emerging from the billowing white mass of icy vapour. The face of the cliff is dark and lined with scars from millennia of erosion due to waterfalls; on flatter surfaces there is grass and trees covering every bit of space. The trees are tall with thin trunks, green-leaved, and both deciduous and evergreens appear to be represented. Some of this growth is bold against the cloud, while other parts emerge from wisps of lower streamers of mist like ghosts. It's an eerily cool, quiet scene.

@anne_kreft my top three #travel destinations: Norway, Norway, Norway - at least to have relaxing vacations and get the batteries recharged. Other extraordinary places that I had the chance to visit and can recommend: Iceland, Hawaii, Easter Island, Mauritius.
