But the latest developments (#apple following #google on #gulfofmexico ) make me want to do the switch.

However: how would I ever buy a #pixelphone from google, even if it is to install @GrapheneOS ?!?

It feels odd having Android OS updates back again after going years without them on my Pixel 3a. The Pixel 8a is snappy new phone, but I'm not a fan of the settings. It took some time to configure everything, including turning Gemini off.

I've been changing my online accounts over to my #protonmail addresses in preparation to #degoogle my life. Big changes coming for me tech-wise.

My goals..

*Switch to #Linux for my daily driver at home.
*Buy an unlocked #pixelphone and install either #CalyxOS or #LineageOS

It feels good to be taking charge of my digital life/wellbeing instead of putting it in the hands of big corporations that just seem hell-bent on owning everything.

Just saw a shadow move towards our fig tree grove from a distance, went closer to investigate and eventually found this specimen high up in the branches! No wonder the birds were sounding the alarm! This beautiful Goanna could easily empty their nests check out how they wrap their long tail around the tree for balance; from head to tail I'd guess this one to be approximately 1.8m long. Beauty! (Where is a DSLR with a decent zoom lens when I need it... )

So I finally did it. Managed to get a #PixelPhone and install #GrapheneOS on it. Been wanting to do this for ages but time and/or money constraints had always held me back

Royal visit on our deck this weekend: an Emperor Gum Moth! (Opodiphthera Eucalypti) Check out the wing patterns with four eyes and the fuzzy legs and abdomen! Apparently their caterpillars stay cocooned for a year or more (!) depending on the environmental conditions, and the adults only live for a couple of weeks because they are unable to feed (!!) - they have to rely soley on the energy consumed as caterpillar. Wild!
