"Dear Ruth" teableau for 03/26/25
I love vintage greeting cards. The one here is from the 1950s.
If you need a pick-me-up… How about some orchids?
The US Botanic Garden has a special exhibit, “Orchids: Masters of Deception”
They are stunning!

When we visited the Christchurch Botanic gardens recently my daughter took me to this ancient ivy, her favorite plant in the gardens. It has some terrifically twisted, creepy H. R. Eiger vibes.
It grows up the side of a giant sequoia tree that was planted in 1873. I expect the ivy cannot be much younger than that as its base is completely smothered by large sequoia roots.

If you're in Ōtautahi-Christchurch, NZ, the Sapphire Tower is flowering in the Botanic Garden. It's a bromeliad from the Chilean Andes (an odd place for bromeliads), with a tall flower spike of incredible teal-coloured flowers.
There's a plant outside between the tropical house and fernery.
In Chile they're pollinated by hummingbirds and other birds. Our plant is being visited by silvereyes, house sparrows, and bumblebees.
