Started blocking out the GUI parts of Staff hiring over the weekend. Thankful it wasn't too much work as the GUI system is written in #lua and #xml.

#multimall is starting to finally feel like a cohesive experience instead of a janky pile of debug menus.

In other news my lines script as seen in some of my other posts now produces a fun little graph.

I've been debugging some GUI systems in preparation for a small demo.

I think I like the D programming language quite well. Though I would say there are certainly still things missing, but that appears to be the case with all langs.

D seems to be pretty decent, so far.

Samerion is written in #Dlang, which is a niche programming language, and games in written in D are a rare sight. Nonetheless, I'm not the only one, so check this out:

I bootstrapped GDC on macOS/aarch64, since I couldn't find anyone else who had done so.

The refactoring worked!

The destructible crates seem to work well with all the weird situations I tested.

Now, to the boring task of translating the new logic into the level generator (which it's made in D, for performance reasons).

Due to some potential users had complaints about some of the default tools not playing nice with their monitors due to size, I decided to add a feature to set the GUI scaling to any integer number, lower for low-res displays, higher for hi-res displays.

Due to election grievance (I was somewhat expecting a loss, but this much...) and illness, I had to somewhat dial back the amount of work I'm putting into development, but project templates are mostly done, time to do the tests on the other two currently supported platforms (Linux/x86_64 and Linux/AArch64)!

I'm still working on the engine, I was just more active on BlueSky (https://bsky.app/profile/ziltoid1991.bsky.social), but don't worry, I won't disappear from here. The Fediverse is still playing part in my reach.

I think by the weekend, I will have v0.11.0 released, then I'll be wrapping up v0.11.0 of the editor.

Testcase Nr.2 is now working, time to get Nr.1 working with resizable windows!

Some GUI stuff I've just done.

My windows? Resizable.

Next I'll implement the feature to resize the raster, which will be useful for GUI applications.

A bit of staying up revealed me that the garbling was an error on my side, namely I forgot to multiply the bitmap width by 4 (sizeof of uint/Color) for the pitch.

I'll issue some fixes to iota, then engine version v0.11.0 will be released. For v0.12.0, I'll deprecate the CPU renderer in favor of the GPU, and also add "hi-res overlay" support.

the #rustForLinux back-and-forth is not the first time #linux #kernel maintainers have looked down on technologies outside of their comfort space and being apologists of the shortcomings of their languages and tools

there's this systematic rejection of #cpp and they have not been welcoming to #dlang¹

sometimes, they do get things right, like #git and updating their guidelines for inclusive terminology

¹: hope someone can prove me wrong on this one… whatever happened after that _one_ module written in D?
