: The chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs) is a songbird belonging to the finch family (Fringillidae). It is found throughout Europe with the exception of the islands and northernmost Scandinavia, and its distribution area extends eastwards to central Siberia. It is also a breeding bird in North Africa and Western Asia up to and including Iran. In New Zealand and the Republic of South Africa, the chaffinch has been introduced by humans. A couple of weeks ago, I set out before dawn to capture binaural audio recordings of the elusive Kōkako at Otanewainuku Reserve in New Zealand. While they remained too high in the canopy for me to photograph, I wasn’t disappointed. I managed to record some incredible audio of their calls. I saw this stork last year or the year before on the way to a lake. It is sitting on a house to the right next to a traffic light. The last time the light unfortunately turned green too quickly, which is why I didn't catch it. This time I knew that a stork lived there and I immediately got my camera ready, rolled down the window and took a picture. I'm really glad that I was able to admire this majestic animal again! Thanks to the red light that gave me enough time.

I know I’m posting a lot of kestrels at the moment, but they’re just getting braver towards me This female placed her up in the tree after a few walkers passed by. I already knew she was less shy and took the chance. I didn’t look at her to find a place without backlighting and luckily she stayed and let me take photos.

It is relatively familiar to the public because it has also conquered cities and urban areas as its habitat and can often be seen hovering. Body size and wingspan vary greatly depending on the subspecies and individual. In the subspecies Falco tinnunculus tinnunculus found in Europe, males reach an average body length of 34.5 centimeters and females 36 centimeters. The average wingspan of males is just under 75 centimeters and that of the larger females is 76 centimeters. Studies have shown that females can differentiate between eleven different vocalizations and males over nine. I saw this buzzard sitting there in the afternoon when the sun was already down. It really annoyed me because it was just too dark for a good photo. The next day I was even happier when it sat in the same place again while it was looking for mice. Because it wanted to catch them, it looked as if it had been having fun in the snow It’s always nice to see these animals up close, especially because I’ve never been anywhere near that close to a buzzard in my city

It was a cold day without sun but I still wanted to go looking for birds. Unfortunately there was nothing going on until I heard 2 black woodpeckers. I looked around carefully until I saw this male on a thin, bare tree. I had only seen his belly and had to fight my way through the snow and fir trees to see him from the side. He hid most of the time and only showed his head now and then, which is why in the 10 minutes he was there, „only“ 2 pictures were taken. But I’m still happy!
