Port weather? Probably. But when you feel like a Riesling...this beautiful Auslese Erd Trep (Fuder #10) hits the spot.

It shows bursts of acidity on a fairly tense finish. It doesn't seem sweet and it has plenty of life left. Lively and refreshing, the fruit wraps around that acidic backbone. This is prime time. Which is good since I have more. 🎉😆

A ridiculous $16 on release. Yeah, that won't do it today. Probably, triple it. 8.5%.

The vitality of Riesling is always amazing. Of my '01s, this has shown more nuances of age than most--many are ridiculously youthful--with darker color, some burnished notes. But it's still remarkably vibrant, a backbone of zesty acidity mingling with a bit of sugar for a juicy, tense finish. It's hanging in great, which is good; happily have some left. But it was fine, better than fine. Maybe a little more mature, but still youthful. It drank great--ripe, rich and a hint of peach, delicious with a bit of tension. It's indestructible! 7.5%.

1st bottle, hold it for 25+ years...and corked. C'mon! But I had a lot of this (have a few more) and don't recall prior TCA. Open another: super! That's my baby. What happened, sweetie? Early Halloween trick? 😈 Well, this 2d is delicate, very fresh, a little sweet on the edges, bright with bite. Hard to stop drinking this. At 7.5% alc. you don't have to. $23 then. ($$ might be tripled+ for new vintages.)

Been digging into my stash of this ($22 on release), the last about 6 months ago though. Time for more. Gotta catch up!

Still fresh, but maybe a little loss of energy over time. There's no rush with this '01 Spat, but also no point to holding it.

But one thing I didn't do on the last taste was pair it with some nice white clam sauce over linguine. That worked better than I thought! Always a new wrinkle. #wine #riesling @kesselstatt #winesofgermany

This Extra Brut from the Finger Lakes is a little different in one key way--it's Riesling, the first significant release from the winery since 1985. (There was a small-batch 2015.) It opens with a certain unctuousness, then becomes steelier. The Riesling adds some flavor and the balance is perfect. 28 months on the lees, 4 grams dosage, 2019 disgorgement, 12% alc. I've likely posted on this before. I bought a lot, drinking too slowly.😱 But it's not a bad idea to check in on this "regular" Spät as it moves well into its 20s. Short answer: absolutely perfect.Fresh, fruity and delicious, it seems ridiculously young & better than the last bottle (that's the way it goes). It develops more of an acidic backbone with air & adds a sunny feel with just a hint of tartness. It is not the most concentrated ever, but it has lots of life left. Nice! #wine #riesling

Auf dem Herd stehen bereits die Zutaten fürs Mittagessen. Der Topfinhalt sieht etwas unscheinbar aus, ist aber der Hauptdarsteller für das Gericht: die #Weißweinreduktion aus #Riesling mit #Zwiebel, #Rosmarin, #Zitronenthymian, #Pfefferkraut, weißem #Pfeffer und etwas #Estragon.
Das ganze Haus duftet schon danach. Die Reduktion ist die Basis für die Sahnesauce zu den #Kartoffeln und dem #Lachsfilet aus dem Backofen.
In ihrer Nachbarschaft entsteht in der Pfanne gleich die #Kruste aus #Butter, #Schinken und #Semmelbrösel, die ich dem #Fisch aufsetzen werde. Oben drauf kommt noch was vom #Bärlauch aus dem Wald.
