#lace

🧵 For all who like to see my #scrollBook project in progress, I start a thread for new photos.
The idea: Having art small enough for a handbag or hanged on a wall. 'Writing' a #book that can't get copied by AI or people - but can be inspiring for others.
Materials: A vintage wooden bobbin, tea-dyed coton flannel, #teaBags, #sareeSilk scraps, #lace, #embroidery, glass rocailles.

Making progress on the shuttle tatted choker/necklace/whatchamacallit. I've always been fascinated by lace making, but the bobbin and pin method is a) impossible to do on the go and b) a sensory nightmare with the clacking of bobbins against each other 😵‍💫 i was so happy when i discovered shuttle tatting, which eliminates both issues and is actually not that hard to learn. The stitches are structured pretty much like macrame knots and the patterns/diagrams are easy to follow. Even for me, and i can't stand reading patterns 🫣 this is a free pattern i found online, originally meant to be attached as edging on a handkerchief.

:BoostOK:
Is¹ there anyone else out there doing "lace" by interlinking braids of three² yarns instead of two?
Because my brain was to bored by just weaving with two³ bobbins and had the weird thought of "Lace making, but with weaving!" and i could not find anything like that on the net⁴.

1: Or was?
2: Or More.
3: Or rather four, if you do lace you know what i mean.
4: Though i am new to lace making and don't know much terminology to search for.

Another one from my never-ending list of crafts: shuttle tatting! This is a ye olden maid kind of skill. It's tiny, finicky and not particularly forgiving. I love it 😌
This is a shuttle and ball pattern, using my favourite Aerlit shuttle with the tiny hook. Gonna continue this pattern until it's choker length and either attach it lengthways to a velvet ribbon or just use a bit of silk ribbon in the back for closure. It'll be gifted to a dear friend who likes to dress up for ren fairs etc.

A few years ago, I made this hat which is still one of my favourite makes. The pattern is self drafted and very simple, basically it's just two circles and a long rectangle.

I used three layers: smooth viscose/cotton lace on top of a cotton fabric which I stabilized with iron-on fusible interfacing. The hat is also lined with a light cotton fabric, so it’s hand washable.

All the materials (except interfacing) are recycled from thrifted clothes, like a skirt lining that I had removed and a lace top that was too short.

To style the hat in different ways, I just tie silk chiffon scarves around it and clip or pin fabric flowers, barrettes or brooches to it.

A lace curtain seen inside the house of gauchos in the Patagonia area of Argentina. It seems to be tucked into the window handle to let the light into the interior. Soft light filters through the glass panes, creating a tranquil and airy atmosphere.
