I was told there would be ducks.....

A pair of Wood Ducks floating in green colored water. Male on the left with its blocky color pattern. Female on the right with dark brown head, back, and wings with light brown white spotted sides. She also had a pronounced white teardrop shape around the eye.

Staying warm

Alopochen aegyptiaca (Egyptian goose / Nilgans)

An aegyptian goose on a lawn with three tiny goslings hiding their heads under their parent’s wings in order to conserve warmth. The adult goose holds its wings wide and low in a protective manner.

A couple of weeks ago I had a beautiful foggy morning to shoot waterfowl and I am very happy with the way this shot turned out! I hope you like it as much as I do.

Vertical format. The water line is about 1/5 from the top. On the water line is a lone silhouetted duck on the left and facing right. There is a lot of fog on the water and above it is pitch black. Below the duck is more fog blending into a reflection of the trees in the background with the golden glow of sunrise extending to the bottom.

Wie schön kann man sein? Oo

Graugans mit orangenem Schnabel von schräg vorn fotografiert, wie sie Oberkörper und Hals elegant reckt und dabei die großen Flügel ausgebreitet hat. Man erkennt an der Unterseite die unterschiedlichen Schichten, Farben und Größen der Federn.

🌏 Australian wood duck (Chenonetta jubata) ♀

The Australian wood duck, maned duck, or maned goose is a medium-sized duck resembling a small goose. Females have brown heads with distinct white stripes above and below their eyes, and mottled underparts. Males feature a dark brown head with a small mane, a grey body, and a mottled breast. They are widely distributed across mainland Australia, favouring grasslands, woodlands, and shallow wetlands. Unlike many ducks, they primarily graze on land, often in flocks, and are frequently seen perching in trees. Their calls include croaky "gnow" sounds, with females having a louder, rising call.

Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1)

I have been playing around with a new lens that creates this beautiful donut bokeh effect. I love what it did to the background in this shot. What do you think?

Horizontal frame. White duck is sitting on grass in the lower left third of the frame and facing right. Behind the duck is the blue water of the lake and above it green trees in the distance. The background has a very soft dreamy effect due to the special lens that creates “donut bokeh” which basically means that the bright spots are rendered as circular instead of a point.

Hat die Federn schön!

Bildfüllender großer Wasservogel steht bis zu den Knien im Wasser. Die Federn sind grau, schwarz und weiß gemustert. Der Schnabel, die Beine und die Umrandung der Augen sind orange. Die Gans hat den Hals und Kopf sehr weit über den Rücken nach hinten gebogen und streicht/zieht mit dem Schnabel eine lange schwarze Feder nach oben.

One of my favorite spots for Snow Goose migration is the Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area in south eastern Pennsylvania( I grew up near this area so there is a long history of hiking and birding for me). This year, because of avian bird flu concerns, viewing areas were restricted, so we missed this year's migration. This shot was from several years ago when our timing was just right.
