Question to the Mastodon:

Do you recommend any writing ?

Today a friend suggested that it might be easier for me to write on the keyboard instead with a pen. Normally I'm trying to keep away from the screen (my day job is programming), but maybe I could find a good flow with a well designed application?

I know , , .

The point is to just write, I can manage a wiki / a graph of notes separately.

@alxd You can use #obsidian for your writing! I use focus mode and it's not distracting. And I cut off Wifi when I write

@joonhyeok_ahn @alxd

Another vote for #Obsidian. Tried multiple ghost-writer alikes, but stayed here. Just a very pleasant writing experience on any device, with a bonus of management superpowers. Sometimes still use #np++, when I want an instant startup or quick edits.

@dudenas @joonhyeok_ahn thank you for your recommendations.

So, any good resource to start learning about Obsidian from?

@alxd @joonhyeok_ahn
Given your goal "just to write", not much to learn, simply try.
You just need to know that it operates on .md files and uses directories as "vaults" (those can also be dealbreakers for some use cases). If that fits you, everything else will come along. Better take your minutes to slowly check some buttons rather than reading reviews and sinking into countless theoretical possibilities.
Maybe one worth mentioning - if you need sync and are not willing/able to support the project, you can use syncthing or similar external tool.

@dudenas @joonhyeok_ahn I would love to pay for the sync, if only the base was FLOSS :) I welcome it being free, but I really really like FLOSS projects, paying for them and contributing to them.

See the buttons filtering Notifications in Mastodon above? I wrote those ;)

@alxd @joonhyeok_ahn
oh crap, I always thought #obsidan is FLOSS.. Thanks for checking out. At least my data is in .md

@dudenas @alxd Unfortunately, it's not open source. I wish it can be anytime in the near future

@nhan @dudenas @joonhyeok_ahn I wrote the notification filtering system in Mastodons frontend - follows, boostsz messages etc ;)
