: The chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs) is a songbird belonging to the finch family (Fringillidae). It is found throughout Europe with the exception of the islands and northernmost Scandinavia, and its distribution area extends eastwards to central Siberia. It is also a breeding bird in North Africa and Western Asia up to and including Iran. In New Zealand and the Republic of South Africa, the chaffinch has been introduced by humans. The chaffinch reaches a body length of 14 to 18 centimetres. Individuals of the nominate form weigh between 18 and 25 grams. Regardless of gender, chaffinches have a striking white shoulder patch, a white wing bar and white outer tail feathers.

Unabhängig vom Geschlecht weisen Buchfinken einen auffallenden weißen Schulterfleck, eine weiße Flügelbinde und weiße äußere Steuerfedern auf.
